LFAA Adult Shooters of the Year (SOY) Method of Calculation

LFAA will award one male and one female as Shooters of the Year.  This award will be given at the LFAA end of the year banquet and general members meeting.

The criteria for determining these two archers is as follows:

  • The system will be based upon a points system, which shall be calculated per shooting style in gender class.  All adult age groups (A, S, SS, & MS) in a specific shooting style will all be combined together when calculating points.  I.e. all FS no matter age group will be combined together; all BHFS will be combined; etc.
  • After points are calculated per shooting style, then these points will be combined per gender, and the archer with the most points will win.
  • Two primary factors in determining points is amount of competition, i.e. number of archers shooting in the class; and the ranking of the archer based upon score.
  • d.The potential maximum score that an archer can achieve is based upon the number of archers shooting in the class.  With six or more archers in a class a maximum of 1.00 point is awarded for a first-place finish.  With five archers in class .9 points will be awarded for first place finish; .8 points for four archers; .7 points for three; .6 points for two; and .5 points for one archer.
  • Points awarded for less than a first-place finishes will be calculated by determining a factor (F) based upon the number of archers shooting in style, using the formula of F =Mp/#A.  Where Mp is maximum possible points and #A is number of archers shooting in the class.  Example: If there are 10 archers in class the factor (F) is determined by dividing 1.0 by 10, which will give a factor of 0.1.  This factor will be used in the following formula to determine the Archer’s points (Ap): Ap = Mp - F(R - 1); R is the ranking of the archer.  Thus, for example, if an archer places third in a field of ten archers, his/her points would be calculated as:

Ap = Mp - F(R -1)
Ap = 1.0 - 0.1(3-1)
Ap = 1.0 - 0.1 (2)
Ap = 1.0 - 0.2
Ap = 0.8

  • 0.25 bonus points will be awarded for breaking a state record, not for setting a state record.  Note: This is the state record in the age class the archer is shooting.
  • Only LFAA state tournaments will generate points.  Lowest point total from one tournament will be dropped from addition to the total points.
  • The calculations discussed above should be considered guidelines, and not hard rules; but for the LFAA to choose a SOY that is not by this calculation, should require a unanimous vote; and that an explanation why should be posted both on official media and discussed at the LFAA Banquet.
  • After each year the system shall be evaluated by the board to determine the performance of the system, and how to improve if necessary.
  • The standings will be posted on LFAA official media after each state shoot.
